CSO LAUDS FUTIA FOR UPHOLDING PUBLIC PROCUREMENT ACT

The Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has applauded the management of the Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State for constantly adhering to the provisions of the Public Procurement Act (PPA), 2007 in its Bid Opening exercises since inception of the institution.

This assertion was made by its Director, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, after observing the Technical Bid Opening for Year 2024 Capital Project, held on Thursday, 27th February, 2025, at the University Senate Chamber.

In a letter dated 25th February, 2025, and signed by Umoh Jacob, Ag. Director, Procurement, for the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel, the CHRAN was invited to participate in the exercise as an Observer in line with the PPA 2007.

The Center observed that the exercise was conducted in accordance with the basic principles applicable to public procurement under the PPA, 2007, which are accountability, fairness, reliability, transparency, ethical standards, and economy.

The Center noted that the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel who presided over the exercise was represented by Dr. O. E. Etim.

The exercise was moderated by the Acting Director of Procurement of FUTIA, Umoh Jacob.

Other members of the university management team who attended the exercise included the Registrar, Nkang, Offiongita represented by Samuel Effiok; Bursar, Dr. Erasmus Mbobo represented by Ikemesit A. Victor; the Librarian, Prof. P. U. Akor represented by Dr. C. O. Udofot.

Others were: Imo G. Uko, acting Head of Audit; Engr. Ekanem Anietie, Acting Head of Works and Arc. Sampson, Ubong, Physical Planning and Development, among others.
